I made this wedding kimono for a sewing competition a few years ago. I won a prize at the Royal Easter Show in Sydney for it. Now when not folded up in my sewing room it hangs int the church a few times a year. It is made of silk -lots of hand beading, embroidered cockatoos with golden crests and leaves. The obi is heavily beaded (again by hand).
This is the back of the jacket I have made for a competition this month. The theme was midnight magic. I have embroidered and beaded fireworks above the Sydney Opera House, Eiffel tower and the London Eye.
I have been making things all my life.
Sewing when I was young. Knitting and crocheting in my teenage years. In the last few years I have been doing a lot more freeform work, scrumbling, beading, quilting and now fabric punching. I don't like rules, but accept that you need to know what they are so you know when you are able to bend or break them.
I was born in Scotland, and emigrated to Australia in 1986. We live in the Northern Beaches of Sydney. I am married and have 2 children and a cat - who knows when I am busy and that is when she wants attention.
